Privacy, accuracy and limitations

  • Whitespace-based words: words are counted as groups separated by whitespace.
  • Sentence estimate: sentence totals use common punctuation such as periods, question marks and exclamation marks.
  • Paragraph estimate: paragraphs are separated by one or more blank lines.
  • Reading time: the estimate uses 225 words per minute and rounds up to the next minute.
